At the end of the 19th century, the Norwegian Parliament decided to build a national history museum. Based on designs provided by the architect Henrik Bull, the new museum building was built in 1897 in Art Nouveau style.
The building is made of red brick with decorative features and intermittent elements made of Obernkirchener Sandstein®. Today, it houses the Museum of Cultural History of the University of Oslo.
