      Ecology + Humanism: LOHAS
Protecting the environment, nature and health, and sustainability and human rights are the pillars that form the foundations of our company. Accordingly, our products have long since reflected the LOHAS lifestyle (Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability). This is why our production and processing facilities are located right where the stone is quarried - in Obernkirchen.

OBERNKIRCHENER SANDSTEIN®. A genuine and pure product of nature.
The stone is delivered in its natural state, as it was shaped more than 140 million years ago. A reliable product control system guarantees the quality. Unlike some other natural stones, our stone does not require any further treatment following quarrying in order to satisfy environmental requirements or to make the product usable.

OBERNKIRCHENER SANDSTEIN®. Ready for use, even without the consumption of energy.
Of course we use energy - in the form of electrical power - for mechanical processing. The energy that is used carefully and the resulting emissions are, however, negligible in comparison with other wall building materials. No energy whatsoever is needed to manufacture the actual material, unlike bricks, sand-lime bricks, concrete, glass or metal, for example.
OBERNKIRCHENER SANDSTEIN®. For a long and healthy life - for everyone involved.

A product of nature should only be allowed to call itself a "natural product" if it is obtained without harming the environment. Instead of explosives, we use state of the art technology - that keeps noise and emissions down. Together with the professional trade association, we have developed safety concepts and dust extraction systems to protect our members of staff against accidents and the risk of silicosis.

In earlier times, stonemasons rarely made it past their 40th birthday. To this day, stone is still quarried and processed by employees with no protection whatsoever in many countries, and not just outside Europe. Which is why a large number of people still die from silicosis and avoidable accidents. Inconceivably, some countries still use child labour in their stone quarries. Equally inconceivably, people in "enlightened countries" are still closing their eyes to the fact that their "natural stone" is being manufactured in inhuman working conditions.

Of course, we seriously hope that the “Fair Stone” standard developed by WIN=WIN really does help to improve the working conditions of exploited labourers. But it will probably take a long time yet – unfortunately - for the working conditions, in Asia for example, to reach the standards practiced in the Western world.

As long as the product is cheap, that is all that matters! This widespread consumer behaviour is one of the reasons why labourers are being exploited and the environment is being destroyed. A good product, manufactured under fair conditions, costs a certain price. “Cheaper” always means sacrificing quality and is only achieved at the expense of both the environment and the people working on the production process.

OBERNKIRCHENER SANDSTEIN®. Enchanting memories.
Even the oldest parts of our stone quarries, which are 1,000 years old, are still visible in places. Thank goodness, according to numerous nature lovers, history enthusiasts and hikers. Our quarrying of the sandstone has not produced any deep craters, but rather an undulating hilltop on the ridge of the Bückeberg.  To this day, the areas where sandstone was quarried for world-famous buildings are still recognisable. Nature has regained possession of these areas. Creating an enchanted landscape that is home to rare plants and animals.

OBERNKIRCHENER SANDSTEIN®. A stone for responsible aesthetes.
Modernity since early medieval times - born while dinosaurs roamed the Earth - created for generations.
